Google shared information about a “highly targeted and sophisticated attack” on their corporate infrastructure that occurred last month. The attack originated in China and resulted in the “theft of intellectual property from Google.” In light of the attack Google is making sweeping changes to its Chinese operations.

There is also an interesting take on foreignpolicy.com, showing that these attacks were mainly planned on the market share of the company. When Google announced its further steps to move out of china, the China – hosted companies earned more revenue\market share according the the foreign policy site.

The Chinese version of the site had been quickly gaining market share against homegrown competitors Youku and Tudou. State news agency Xinhua said that the root cause of the blockage was a video showing Tibetans being beaten by zealous police officers.

Coming back to the China piracy & counterfeiting goods, one group in China has taken the imitation act to a whole new level. The world’s most popular search engine, Google, now has a copycat in China called Goojje.

The name Goojje is a play on words. The last syllable in “gu-jie” is the Chinese word for “older sister.” While the last syllable in Google—“gu-ge” in Chinese—sounds like the character for “older brother.”

The site was launched just one day after Google threatened to leave China over censorship disputes.
